Apple Music may not be winning over all the critics – and I definitely think it could improve a few things – but one thing it has done is allow me to try out a lot of music I wouldn’t have considered otherwise. I have found some amazing artists that I’m thoroughly enjoying – and very incidentally they’re all women with AMAZING voices.
I’m taking it up with my radio peeps because we should TOTALLY be playing this awesome artist’s brand of ’80s style pop. It’s fun, her vocals are beautiful and the hooks are fierce. She’s an Aussie native and you can feel it in her music – you can almost smell the sea and holiday vibes.
I’ve known the name for a really long time but never got ’round to giving her a listen – and I’m so glad I finally did! Too awesome. I don’t think it’s for everyone but it’s also not an acquired taste. It’s really, really cool, with influences from various cultures and musical genres. She also does all the artwork for her albums and singles herself. An amazing artist indeed.
I don’t know that I LOVE her yet, but it’s Electronic music perfection if that’s your vibe. She’s in permanent falsetto which does sometimes work – ala Elle Goulding – but I find it makes it difficult to listen to the album from start to finish. I’m giving it a few more goes though as I really like her style. Although after watching this video I’m fairly certain that I do love her.
I know. Where have I been. Another one I’ve been meaning to get to – and another I’m so relieved to have tried. I love Daughter – oh the sad, sombre melancholy – and BANKS is similar. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t love this.
It’s only an EP for now but it’s EP-ic. It’s simply beautiful, clean, musical magic. Really beautiful. That’s the word. I feel like I need to be in a cabin on a rainy day with hot coffee and croissants while I listen to this. Gorgeous.
